Jake Painter

OC – who is standing for the position of Secretary – is to be elected unopposed as will Fraser Walker who is standing for the position of Treasurer.

Fraser – who took on the role in June 2014 – said it was a great privilege to return to the job.
“Since I took on the role last June, I have sought to be as professional as possible and I take this opportunity to promise to you all that I will continue that work to the best of my ability and for the benefit of every member of Young Independence.”

“I will work with all the new members of the council to make YI as fair and open as possible and to make it work for everyone.”

“I hope that I will be worthy of the trust the membership have put in me for a second time.”

Oliver – previously a parliamentary candidate – spoke of the great opportunity of joining the National Council.
“It’s really great to the get opportunity to join the council and contribute to the continued growth of YI. We’ve seen YI take some amazing steps forward over the past year and now it’s time to drive even further forward.”

Joe Jenkins

“I’ve decided to run for this position because I want to help ensure the membership is kept in the loop as best as possible. I look forward to working with the new Council to build a more engaging YI.”

Over the course of this week the two candidates for the position of Chairman are to canvass the YI membership for support. Polling for the election is to open midday on Friday 29th with further details to be released in due course.

A recorded debate between Joe and Jake is planned to be broadcast via the YI Channel on YouTube on Thursday 28th. Questions are to be a mixture of generic and those posed by the YI membership
