Meet UKIP’s candidate for Normanton, Pontefract & Castleford: YI’er Nathan Garbutt
I am very proud to be the first UKIP candidate to contest the Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford constituency standing against Europhile MP Yvette Cooper.
I was born and bred in Pontefract and have been an active member of UKIP since 2010, I have campaigned for an EU referendum for many years.
Until recently I chaired UKIP in the Wakefield district, having previously been Secretary of Young Independence Yorkshire. I am currently Vice-Chairman of UKIP in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
I have contested a number of local elections in the Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford constituency most recently in Pontefract North ward at the 2014 local elections polling 36% of the overall vote, a respectable second place.
I have had a diverse and rounded career, I currently work with the unemployed in the said constituency supporting them to find and retain training and employment, previous to this I worked in a mental health setting.
I tweet @Nathangarbutt.
